I have had some questions as to what camping gear I use on my moto, so to avoid future ones here you go:
Tent: Buy an REI Brand. They last forever and they are built as good or better than all the big names. I have a big one and a small one. My MC/Hiking tent is a Half Dome 2 http://www.rei.com/product/728308 . Alaina and I made it through 2 nights of SERIOUS storms with high wind, hail and heavy rain and it didn’t even flinch. The lightning didn’t strike us either so it must have a force field sewn into the fabric. I like being dry in a tent that stays together so I am partial to that tent brand.
Sleep pad: My sleep pad is a Big Agnes. http://www.rei.com/product/691240 It packs down tight and is comfy, but tends to be a little slick when coupled with a sleeping bag.
Bed roll: If it is in the high 60’s on up I use what is called a bag liner. I bought one at http://www.backwoods.com/locations-ftworth.html and it is called a “Folio”. I think it cost about $20. If the temp is going to be close, I just sleep with my clothes on. Colder I put my moto jacket on top of me. I always bring one of those tiny silver safety blankets that cost $2 just in case I get wet.
Pillow: I like to use this one http://www.rei.com/product/728415. You can put your crap in it and when you arrive you just take your crap out, turn it inside out and stuff soft crap in it like your moto jacket or rain gear. Nothing like having nice soft crap to rest your head on.
All of this weighs a whopping 6 to 7lbs. Best places for gear are Backwoods in Fort Worth and REI in Dallas.
Good info !
