04.19.08 Ride

What a weekend!  We headed out of Yogi’s parking (Fort Worth) lot about 8:45 and made our first stop in Glen Rose.  We discovered Brads brand new windshield took a rock from a gravel truck which made a pretty crack the shape of a star on the left side of in it.  I offered to hit on the other side to make it match but he refused the service.  The weather was awesome as we left Glen Rose and traveled south on highway 56 all the way to Valley Mills stopping once in Laguna Park.  We then picked up 317 to Crawford and stopped at the Coffee Station.  The food is awesome!  Whatever you do, get the fried pickles.

Heading west on 185 out of Crawford to 84 is one of our favorite roads.  Nice turns that you can see all the way to the end.  We then took 84 through Gatesville and picked up 116 to Copperas Cove.  The trip now gets complicated and we managed to get across the bridge on Stillhouse lake and head west on 2484.  Awesome road!  I found out that the gang had some damn good brakes when we had to made an unexpected left turn.  We missed the next left turn we were to make and ended up in Florence.  There after it was 195 to I-35 and slightly North to ride into Walburg arriving about 3:15.  After getting there, we swore off Killeen as a route to take.  Too much crazy traffic regardless of the hour.

Camping worked out pretty good.  The Resturant has 12 acres behind it and we picked the spot closest to the bier tent.  Funny thing is that it probably not the best spot on the property because it was the overflow area for parking and there was a well placed street light that stays on all night.  Fortunately the lights own pole cast a V shaped shadow wide enough for us to move our tents into.  It was all in vain.  The moon came out and was brighter than the street light.

As always the food was good and the beer cold.
