Map Updated

The map has been update for this ride.  It was a unanimous decision to avoid Killeen traffic this time.  Check it out and feel free to make comments.

October 11th is On!

23 09 2008

I checked with Ronnie and we are good to go.  There will be a much bigger crowd this time (October Fest) so we really need to get a head count for the resturant.  If your name isn’t on the list in “Who’s ridin’”, please send me a email.  Everybody is welcome on this ride so don’t worry about inviting folks, they are welcome.

Good time had by all!

22 04 2008

Good weather, folks, food and adult beverages.  What more could you ask for at the end of the day after an awesome ride.  Check out our photos!

Last Post before the Ride

16 04 2008
My week is about to go crazy so this will be my last posting prior to the ride. The weather is looking to be awesome! Keep and eye on it because it could easily swing 10 degrees and you could freeze your butt off. This site gives the best details www.weather.gov . Remember: We leave Saturday Morning from Yogi’s Bagels at 8:30. Arrive fully fueled and ready to eat at 8:00. Our First stop will be Glen Rose and after that the real fun starts!
Please your own maps. If something should happen or you take lead you will have to find your own way. I didn’t call this “Wurst Way” with out reason.
If you have last minute buddies that want to go they are welcome.

6 days to Wurst

13 04 2008

We are only 6 days away!  So far the weather looks good and we should have an awesome trip.  Keep an eye on the evening tempuratures to make sure you pack enough of a bed roll to stay warm.  It may be a good idea to take your sleeping bag or somemore than a sleep sack.

I have a nice suprise for you.  I took off that crappy HardKrome exhaust and re-installed my factory pipes so our brains won’t be scrambled with that loud ringing all night.  Should be a smooth quiet ride this year.  If there are any last minute notices, they will be posted here.

Camping Gear for the Moto Ride

1 04 2008

I have had some questions as to what camping gear I use on my moto, so to avoid future ones here you go:

Tent:  Buy an REI Brand.  They last forever and they are built as good or better than all the big names.  I have a big one and a small one.  My MC/Hiking tent is a Half Dome 2 http://www.rei.com/product/728308 .  Alaina and I made it through 2 nights of SERIOUS storms with high wind, hail and heavy rain and it didn’t even flinch.  The lightning didn’t strike us either so it must have a force field sewn into the fabric.  I like being dry in a tent that stays together so I am partial to that tent brand.

Sleep pad:  My sleep pad is a Big Agnes.  http://www.rei.com/product/691240   It packs down tight and is comfy, but tends to be a little slick when coupled with a sleeping bag.

Bed roll:  If it is in the high 60’s on up I use what is called a bag liner.  I bought one at http://www.backwoods.com/locations-ftworth.html and it is called a “Folio”.  I think it cost about $20.  If the temp is going to be close, I just sleep with my clothes on.  Colder I put my moto jacket on top of me.  I always bring one of those tiny silver safety blankets that cost $2 just in case I get wet.

Pillow:  I like to use this one http://www.rei.com/product/728415.  You can put your crap in it and when you arrive you just take your crap out, turn it inside out and stuff soft crap in it like your moto jacket or rain gear.  Nothing like having nice soft crap to rest your head on.

All of this weighs a whopping 6 to 7lbs. Best places for gear are Backwoods in Fort Worth and REI in Dallas.
